See which sources
the answer cites.
Citation tracking lists the domains an answer cites: the type, the model, and how often they show up on the prompts you watch.
See the source it used
A mention names a brand. A citation names a page. The list is those pages, one domain at a time.
Know the kind of page
A news story, a guide, and a forum thread do different work. The type is on the row.
See which model cited
ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Mode do not cite the same set. The badges show which ones did.
See how often it shows
Citations and prompts sit on the row. A source on one prompt is not the same as a source on eighteen.
Why the source matters
An answer names brands. It also cites pages. Citation tracking is that second list: who the model relied on, for the prompts you already watch.
A mention is not a source
The answer can name a brand and cite a different site. The source list is the page the model actually used.
Publishers already have the slot
Guides, news, and forums are cited because they already answer the question. That is the page you are writing against.
Your own page can be the source
If the answer cites you, the next job is keeping that page sound. If it cites someone else, the gap is a page you do not have yet.
What the source list holds
Each card is one fact on the row. The numbers in the dashboard are the product demo for a running-shoe catalog. They are not a study.

The domain
The row names the page, then the site under it. The domain is who owns the page the answer actually used.
The type
Article, Guide, Listicle, UGC, Reference, or News. A guide and a forum thread do different work for the answer.
The model
ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Mode do not cite the same pages. The badges show which ones used that source.
The count
The first number is how often it was cited. The second is how many prompts used it. Those are not the same fact.
Your page
If the domain is yours, you can still change the page. If it is not, the gap is a page you do not have yet.
The next check
The list is the last run. After you publish, the same prompts are checked again, and a new page can show up as a source.
ChatGPT
Sources ChatGPT cited on the prompts you track.
Gemini
Sources Gemini cited. The set is often different.
Google AI Mode
Sources Google AI Mode cited in the answer.
FAQ
Short answers on the pages an answer cites.
What is citation tracking?
It is the list of domains an answer cites on the prompts you watch. Each row is a source: the page title, the type, which models cite it, and how often. The questions themselves come from prompt research.
How is this different from AI search visibility?
AI search visibility is whether the answer names your brand. Citation tracking is which pages the answer used. You can be unnamed while a competitor’s page is the source, or named because a publisher cited you.
What do the source types mean?
Article, Guide, Listicle, UGC, Reference, and News. A Reddit thread and a magazine guide are both sources. They are not the same kind of page, and the type is how the list keeps them apart.
Does a citation mean the answer recommended me?
No. A citation is a source the answer relied on. Competitor analysis is who got named. A source can cite a competitor, or cite you, without that being the same fact as a mention.
What do I do with a source that is not mine?
That source is the page the answer already trusts. Opportunities is the next task. Content creation is the page you can put on the calendar when the gap is a missing page of your own.
Is citation tracking the same as a backlink report?
No. A backlink report counts links on the web. This list counts sources inside answers on the prompts you track. See the Ahrefs alternative and Semrush alternative pages.
